Featured Project: The Women’s Center

Updated: Oct 28

At Carolina Closets Plus, we believe in giving back to our community and are proud to partner with other local businesses to support those in need. This fall, we had the privilege to collaborate on a project that is close to our hearts: renovating the warehouse at The Women’s Center of Wake County.

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community through this project. At Carolina Closets Plus, we donated materials and labor valued at $5,800, a contribution we hope will make a lasting difference. For us, this project wasn’t just about enhancing a space; it was about reinforcing the values of dignity, respect, and collaboration that The Women’s Center of Wake County embodies every day.

With a 25% increase in the demand for services in 2024, the Women’s Center now supports nearly 100 women experiencing homelessness daily. Since moving to their new location on New Bern Avenue in March 2023, the need for essential services has only grown. The warehouse, affectionately known as the "Star Store," is the Women’s Center’s central hub for women to shop for shoes, clothing, and hygiene items. However, with its increasing usage, the space required enhancements to meet the demands of its vital role.

We, at Carolina Closets Plus, along with Duo Personal Styling and Clearly Organized, were honored to contribute to the renovation of this important space. Our goal was to enhance the safety, functionality, and adaptability of the warehouse, ensuring that it remains a welcoming and organized environment for both the Women’s Center guests and the dedicated staff who serve them.

Renovations began in late September, and the improved space is already set to streamline the processing and distribution of community donations. The positive impact of this project extends not just to the guests who use the "Star Store," but also to the hardworking volunteers and staff at the Women’s Center.

Amy Smith, the Executive Director of the Women’s Center, shared her appreciation for this collaboration: "Thanks to the incredible partnership with Duo Personal Styling, Clearly Organized, and Carolina Closets Plus, the Women’s Center’s Star Store will continue to exceed the expectations of our guests. The transformation of our warehouse space will help us provide our guests with dignity and a beautiful, well-organized space for them to shop for clothing and other necessities."
