According to Mike Hoffer, founder and President of Carolina Closets Plus, LED lighting has become extremely popular to add accent lighting and task lighting to just about any project. Hoffer says, “the pricing for LED lighting has come down a lot over the past several years, making it a much more affordable upgrade to just about any storage area. We now install lighting on closet rods, shelves and offices”. Carolina Closets Plus has been in business for over 30 years and has been at the cutting edge of the technology for most of them. “There are lots of different types of switches to turn on and off lighting, including motion sensing switches, touch dimmer switches, push button switches and door switches”. Hoffer adds, with all the new types of lighting available and new switching capabilities, it opens up limitless possibilities.” LED lighting now comes in many different forms from strip lights that can be linked together to strip lighting in a roll that can be cut in one inch increments for an exact fit. Hoffer says “ the coolest use of LED lighting that we have done are display shelving for pottery pieces. We use a custom face frame on the cabinets with strip lighting that shines back toward the shelves. This is so much better than the old style puck lighting that only puts light out to the first shelf.””
Carolina Closets Plus, was recently featured in Chapel Hill magazine for its work on the Terry Woodfin home. One of the features in the article focuses on the pantry organization. “It was a very cool project”, says Mike Hoffer, owner of Carolina Closets Plus. “We were able to incorporate a lot of really great storage concepts along with cutting edge LED lighting technology”. LED lighting is a very popular concept says Hoffer because it can really showcase items, even in a pantry. “We typically use LED lighting in display cases that we custom build for pottery and artwork. We also install LED lighting in closets to enhance existing lighting or to showcase accessories like shoes.” Read the article here.It starts on page 92.
